The Swidget Wi-Fi Control Module (WP100PBA) connects compatible Panasonic ventilation products to the Swidget App, adding remote control, live monitoring, automations, and whole-home Balanced Mesh ventilation. This article is an overview of what the module does and the main features it adds to your fan or ERV.
What it works with
The Wi-Fi Control Module is designed for select Panasonic ventilation products, including:
- WhisperGreen Select exhaust fans (110 and 150 CFM models)
- WhisperFresh Select intake (supply) fans
- BalancedHome and Intelli-Balance ERVs (Elite and Elite Plus)
Not all Panasonic models are compatible, and available features vary by model. For the current compatibility list, see What Panasonic products are compatible with the Wi-Fi module?
Smart control and monitoring
Pair the module to the Swidget Cloud through the Swidget App to control your fan or ERV and check its status from anywhere. Depending on your model, the app lets you:
- Control the unit — switch fan modes on ERVs (Ventilation, Exhaust, Supply, and Recirculation on Elite Plus models), toggle High/Low speed on multispeed WhisperGreen fans, place an ERV in standby, or turn the fan on and off.
- Boost on demand — the Boost button cycles through 20, 40, and 60 minute timers and then continuous on, so you can quickly ramp ventilation up when you need it.
- Monitor live readings — indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, current supply and exhaust airflow (CFM), and overall status.
- Get maintenance alerts — filter cleaning and filter replacement reminders, plus fault notifications if the unit reports an error.
- Fine-tune supported ERVs — on Elite Plus ERVs you can set Low, High, and Boost airflow rates and enable humidity control and temperature or humidity based supply-only limits.
Automations
You can trigger Boost automatically, for example on a schedule or from other Swidget sensors such as motion, humidity, or air quality. Boost is the function available to automations today; your fan or ERV's other modes and scheduling continue to be set on the unit itself. Additional automation options are on our roadmap.
Balanced Mesh: whole-home balanced ventilation
If you have two or more modules installed across different Panasonic fans and ERVs, they can work together as a local Balanced Mesh that automatically keeps your home's intake and exhaust airflow in balance.
- Automatic balancing — devices are organized into groups, and each group keeps supply and exhaust airflow balanced. When an exhaust fan turns on, a linked intake device (ERV or WhisperFresh) automatically adjusts its airflow to compensate, so the home stays balanced instead of going into negative pressure. When the exhaust fan turns off, the system returns to its normal balance.
- Works without Wi-Fi or internet — the mesh runs locally and keeps balancing as long as the modules are powered, which also makes it ideal to set up during new construction before Wi-Fi is available.
- One-touch pairing — scan a single QR code to bring an entire mesh installation into the Swidget App.
- Configured in Swidget Pro — Balanced Mesh is set up and managed in Swidget Pro within the Swidget App. To get started, see Creating a local Balanced Mesh Installation.
Why balanced ventilation helps
- Prevents the negative pressure that exhaust-heavy homes can create, which can otherwise pull pollutants in from attics or crawl spaces.
- Keeps fresh air moving to expel humidity, odors, and other indoor air pollutants instead of letting air go stagnant.
- Supports energy efficiency by reducing heat loss from unbalanced airflow and letting you ease back ventilation during unoccupied hours.
- On ERVs, lets you switch to standby remotely when outdoor air quality is worse than indoors, such as during wildfire smoke or smog.
For installers and Swidget Pro
Balanced Mesh installations are created and managed in Swidget Pro within the Swidget App. Installers can set up a mesh in Guest Mode without an active Wi-Fi network, which is ideal for new construction, and later hand the installation off to the occupant, who scans a QR code on any module to import the whole installation into their app. Step-by-step guides:
- Creating a local Balanced Mesh Installation with two or more Wi-Fi Control Modules
- Joining a Balanced Mesh Installation
- Adding a Balanced Mesh Installation to Swidget Cloud
- Pairing individual Wi-Fi Control Modules to Swidget Cloud
Controlling the module in the app
For a single fan or ERV, each module shows a Boost button and an Off button in the Swidget App. The Boost button cycles through 20, 40, and 60 minute timers and then continuous on. The Off button turns the fan off. To turn the fan back on, use the Boost button.
Good to know
- The module adds smart control on top of your Panasonic fan or ERV. It does not replace the unit's own controls. Base operation, run-time scheduling, and modes such as intermittent are still set on the fan or ERV itself.
- The Wi-Fi Control Module connects directly to your home Wi-Fi for app control. No separate hub is required.
- A single fan can be paired on its own for standalone smart control. Balanced Mesh is only needed when you want two or more units to coordinate.
Where to get it
The Wi-Fi Control Module is available through Panasonic and their distributors. For details, see Panasonic Smart Controls: Wi-Fi Control Module.
