If your ERV runs for part of each hour and then stops, or the Swidget App shows Standby when you expect it to be running, this is usually the ERV's own run-time timer doing exactly what it was set to do. It is not a fault with the Wi-Fi Control Module, and in most cases nothing is broken.
Your ERV has an ASHRAE 62.2 run-time timer measured in minutes per hour. A unit set to 30 minutes per hour is meant to ventilate for half of each hour and rest for the other half. While it is resting it reports itself as being in standby, and the app shows you that real state rather than overriding your choice. Setting the run time to 60 minutes per hour means it runs for the whole hour, with no quiet periods to drop into.
Is it the timer, or has the module lost connection?
These look similar in the app and there is a quick way to tell them apart.
- The timer resting: the tile still shows your setting, but its colour changes. Tile colour tracks whether an output is currently running, not what it is set to, so a speed tile can read the same value in green one minute and white the next. The value did not change; the unit simply stopped for this part of the hour. The device is still online and you can still see live readings.
- A connection problem: the device shows as offline, or the readings go stale and stop updating at all.
A useful confirming test: does your mode selection hold if you change it while the fan is audibly running? If it does, the timer was simply resting when you tried before.
Where the run time is set
Run-time scheduling is set on the ERV itself, not in the Swidget App. The module adds smart control on top of your Panasonic unit and reports that setting, but it does not change it.
On both the BalancedHome and Intelli-Balance Elite and Elite Plus+ ERVs the control panel works the same way:
- Press the Mode button to enter the menu.
- Press + or − to cycle through the settings. The display shows a short code for each one.
- Stop at Int, which is the Intermittent runtime setting, also described in the manual as the ASHRAE timer.
- Press and hold Mode to enter it.
- Set the run time in minutes per hour with + or −. Choose 60 if you want it to run for the full hour.
If nobody changed anything, check Automatic runtime
There is a second setting next to it, shown as Aut, called Automatic runtime mode. In this mode the ERV chooses its own run time based on the outdoor temperature:
| Outdoor temperature | Run time |
| Less than -25 °C (-13 °F) | 15 minutes per hour |
| -25 °C to -7 °C (-13 °F to 19 °F) | 20 minutes per hour |
| -7 °C to 10 °C (19 °F to 50 °F) | 40 minutes per hour |
| 10 °C to 25 °C (50 °F to 77 °F) | 60 minutes per hour |
| 25 °C to 28 °C (77 °F to 82 °F) | 30 minutes per hour |
| 28 °C to 33 °C (82 °F to 91 °F) | 20 minutes per hour |
| Above 33 °C (91 °F) | 15 minutes per hour |
This is worth knowing, because it explains a unit that used to run continuously and now does not, without anyone having touched a setting. In Automatic runtime mode a mild spring runs the ERV for the full hour, and a hot summer week cuts it to 30, 20 or even 15 minutes per hour on its own. It works the same way in deep cold. If your ERV started behaving differently as the season changed, check whether it is in Aut rather than a fixed run time.
If you have the wall control
The optional FV-SCVE2 wall control shows the same settings, and its status screen has a dedicated icon for Intermittent runtime operation. If that icon is showing, the unit is running on the timer.
Panasonic's manuals
Panasonic are the authority on their own equipment, and their manuals carry the full detail along with anything specific to your model:
- BalancedHome ERV installation and operating instructions covering FV-16VEC1T/S, FV-13VEC1T/S, FV-15VE1T/S and FV-12VE1T/S.
- Intelli-Balance Elite and Elite Plus+ ERV installation and operating instructions covering FV-15ESC1, FV-12ESC1, FV-14ES1 and FV-11ES1.
- FV-SCVE2 wall control installation and operating instructions.
If you have worked through this and your ERV still stops when it should be running, or it shows as offline in the app rather than resting on its timer, write to us at support@swidget.com with your ERV model and the run time it is set to and we will take a look.
