Swidget devices are designed and rated for indoor installation, with an operating temperature range of -10 to 40 C (14 to 104 F). There is no outdoor-rated Swidget product line, and the devices are not weatherproof, so they should not be installed where they are exposed to rain, snow, or moisture.
Cold, dry locations
Swidget devices have been run in cold Canadian winters without failures tied to the cold, so a device in a garage, cottage, or other unheated but dry space will generally keep working. That said, sustained temperatures beyond the rated range are not recommended and may shorten the device's lifespan.
Seasonal and unheated spaces
If a device will sit unused through the winter in an unheated space, powered off, that is the gentlest scenario and generally fine. As an optional precaution you can pop the insert out and store it indoors, since the insert holds the electronics and snaps back in when the season starts.
Outdoor projects
For genuinely outdoor applications (exterior lighting, outdoor receptacles), use outdoor-rated equipment for the exterior portion. A Swidget switch installed indoors can control an exterior load, as long as the load is within the switch's rating.
