Every Swidget product is built around two parts that snap together: a host device and an insert.
Host devices
The host is the wiring device installed in your wall: an outlet, a switch, a dimmer, or a timer switch. Hosts are wired in like any standard outlet or switch, and they keep working as normal outlets and switches on their own. The lineup:
- 15A and 20A Outlets
- Standard Switch, Dimmer, 20/40/60 Timer Control Switch, and Auxiliary Control Switch
Every host has a port on its face that accepts a Swidget insert.
Inserts
An insert is a small module that snaps into the front of any host to add smart functionality: connectivity, sensors, or both. Because the insert is separate from the wiring, you can add, swap, or upgrade functionality at any time without touching the electrical box.
- Wi-Fi inserts (sometimes called Wi-Fi modules) connect the host directly to your home Wi-Fi — no hub required — for app control, schedules, automations, and sensor data. Options include Control, USB Charger, Guide Light, Power Out Light, Motion, Temperature/Humidity, Air Quality, and HD Camera.
- Z-Wave inserts connect the host to a Z-Wave hub (SmartThings, Hubitat, Home Assistant, and others) instead of Wi-Fi. They come in four types: Control, USB, Temp/Humidity/Motion, and Air Quality.
How they work together
The insert gives the host its smart features. A 20/40/60 Timer Control Switch works as a wall timer on its own; add a Wi-Fi Control insert and you can run it from the app, put it on schedules, and build automations. An outlet with a Temperature/Humidity insert can turn on a fan when humidity rises.
Inserts are not standalone devices: an insert always needs a Swidget host to plug into, and it draws its power from the host.
A note on the Panasonic Wi-Fi Control Module (WP100PBA)
If you have a Panasonic ventilation fan or ERV, the “Wi-Fi module” for those is the Swidget Wi-Fi Control Module (WP100PBA), which installs inside compatible Panasonic fans rather than into a wall host.
