On the app's home screen, each controllable output of a device shows as its own tile. An outlet, for example, shows separate tiles for its Controlled Plug, USB, and Always-on outputs, and a switch or dimmer shows a tile for its load. The color of each tile tells you two things at once: whether that output is on or off, and whether the app is currently connected to the device.
What the colors mean
- White means that output is off.
- Green means that output is on.
- Orange is a temporary "connecting" state, not a steady status. When you tap a white tile, it turns orange for a moment while the app reaches the device through the cloud, then it settles to green if it connects, or back to white if it could not.
So orange on its own simply means the app is reaching out to the device. In normal use you will only see it for a second as a tile switches.
If a tile gets stuck on orange
If a tile stays orange and will not settle to green or white:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to refresh.
- If it is still stuck, fully close the app and open it again.
Why a tile will not turn green
The app controls your device through the Swidget cloud, so a tile that will not turn green means something is preventing the app from reaching the device. This is usually a connection issue rather than a problem with the device itself, such as a temporary internet interruption (on your side or the device's), or an insert that has dropped off Wi-Fi.
If an insert stays disconnected long enough, it will show as offline in the app. Before it reaches that point, you may just see these tile symptoms, such as a tile that will not turn green or that drops back to white after you tap it. Once the connection is restored, the tiles respond normally again.
Quick thing to try: for either of these, removing the insert from its host and putting it back in (pop it out by hand and press it firmly back into place) will often clear a tile that is stuck or will not connect, since it restarts the insert.
Note: this is different from the insert's LED
These tile colors are in the app. The small light on the physical insert is a separate indicator that describes the hardware's own Wi-Fi and cloud connection state. See LED Information for what the insert's light colors mean.
