If your Swidget Dimmer still turns the light on and off but no longer changes brightness, the usual cause is the dimmer's stored minimum and maximum brightness limits. If those end up at or near the same value, the dimmer behaves like a plain on/off switch.

This can happen after an Insert is installed and paired, or after a firmware update. The limits are stored on the dimmer itself rather than in the Insert, so taking the Insert back out does not undo it. That is usually the confusing part, because the timing points at the Insert even though the Insert is not what is holding the setting.

First, reset the brightness limits

Press and hold the OFF side of the dimmer for 5 seconds. The light will flash 3 times, which confirms the minimum and maximum have gone back to factory defaults.

If that does not restore dimming

Pull the air gap switch to cut power to the dimmer completely, then push it back in. The air gap tab is on the front of the dimmer. Pull it out until the embossed word OFF is clearly visible, wait a moment, then press it back in until it sits flush with the front surface.

Setting the limits yourself

With an Insert installed and paired, you can set the minimum and maximum brightness deliberately in the Swidget app. That is worth doing if your bulbs flicker or buzz at the bottom of the range.

If dimming still does not come back after both steps, contact us and tell us what changed just before it stopped, including any Insert you installed or firmware update you applied.
