Network Requirements
Swidget Wi-Fi Inserts require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Common Connection Issues
Dual Band and Mesh Networks
More and more often, home routers are capable of broadcasting on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network bands. These are called dual-band routers. It is very common that the SSID or network name is shared for these dual-band networks. This has been known to cause connectivity issues with many IoT devices, including Swidget's. We recommend using unique names for each network when possible or temporarily disabling the 5 GHz network while connecting your Wi-Fi Inserts.
Airtime Fairness or Airtime Quality
Some routers use Airtime Fairness or Airtime Quality to give priority to higher bandwidth devices. It works by reducing the speed to older devices. This can also interfere with low bandwidth devices such as Swidget Inserts and cause them to show as offline in the Swidget App. Disabling Airtime Fairness or Airtime Quality in your router settings can eliminate connection issues.
Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM)
WMM maintains the priority of audio, video and voice, over other applications which are less time critical. This can impede the connection between your router and Swidget Inserts. Disabling this function in your router settings can greatly improve your connectivity issues. Other names: QOS, Optimize AMPDU. Please disable or turn off.
