Occasionally a Swidget device can show up in the app as the wrong device type: a switch appearing as an outlet, a dimmer detected as an always-on outlet, or a sensor insert showing as a USB insert. The device has not changed; it has misidentified itself when it powered up. This is most often triggered by a quick power cycle, for example flipping a breaker off and immediately back on.
Fixes to try, in order
1) Remove the insert from the wiring device and reinsert it. This prompts the device to re-identify itself and usually returns it to the correct type.
2) Do a slow power cycle. Turn the breaker off, wait at least one full minute, then turn it back on. Quick off-and-on cycles are what commonly trigger the misidentification in the first place, so always give it that minute.
3) If it persists, turn the breaker off and back the switch's mounting screws off about half a turn, then power back on. In crowded electrical boxes, wires pressing hard against the back of the device can cause it to misidentify itself when it boots. Any work involving the wiring itself must be carried out by licensed personnel in accordance with local electrical code.
4) As a last resort, factory reset the insert and pair it again. If you have another Swidget wiring device available, trying the insert there will show whether the behavior follows the insert or stays with the host.
If none of these bring the device back to its correct type, contact us at support@swidget.com with the device model, the insert model, and what the app is showing, and we will dig in further.
