If a Swidget Wi-Fi Insert or Wi-Fi Control Module connects to your Wi-Fi network and appears in the Swidget app but stays offline, the device may have shipped on an older firmware build that cannot finish connecting to the Swidget cloud. This is uncommon, and most often happens with a device that sat in storage for a long time before setup.
Because the device cannot reach the cloud, it cannot update itself automatically. You can update its firmware directly over the device's own Wi-Fi hotspot using the steps below.
This applies to all Swidget Wi-Fi Inserts, with the exception of the Wi-Fi Control Module (WP100PBA) and Wi-Fi HD Camera Insert (WI007UWA).
Before you start
Download the firmware file from Wi-Fi Firmware Download and save it to the phone, tablet, or computer you will use for the update.
Steps
1. Factory reset the Insert so it returns to Discovery Mode. Press and hold the Insert button for 12 to 15 seconds until the LED turns red, then release. The Insert restarts and begins flashing green, which means it is in Discovery Mode. A device that is stuck offline is still paired to your Wi-Fi, so this reset is what makes it broadcast its own hotspot. For full instructions, see Completing a factory reset on an Insert.
2. On your phone or tablet, turn off mobile data and disable auto-join for your home network, then open Wi-Fi settings and connect to the network with Swidget in the name, for example Swidget-4c7525b2cc0c. Staying on this network for the whole update is important, since if the phone jumps back to your home Wi-Fi the update will be interrupted.
3. Open a web browser and go to the device's update page:
For firmware older than 1.6.20: http://10.123.45.1:80 (or http://10.123.45.1:90)
For firmware 1.6.20 and newer: http://10.123.45.1/dashboard/main
4. Choose the firmware file you downloaded and select Upload. Let the device restart when the update completes.
5. Add the device in the Swidget app as normal. Once it is back online, the app will keep it up to date automatically. If you have more than one affected device, repeat these steps for each.
